At Logos, we are on our journey to Net Zero, striving to lower our emissions to better our environmental impact. As part of this, we have invested in a sawmill to provide sustainable timber for all of our moving and packing solutions.
Due to a variety of external influences, the price of timber has increased drastically over the past few years. Having our own sawmill will allow for effective flow of supply chain management, enabling us to provide a more sustainable and responsive service to clients.
By introducing the sawmill into Logos operations, new jobs will be available for operatives. We are consistently looking to expand as a business, and we hope to continue to develop the younger workforce. The sawmill will also allow for current employees to expand their skills and qualifications by operating new machinery.
With the support from Scottish Forestry, all our timber will be locally sourced. For every tree that is felled for timber, a newly planted tree will take its place. Scottish Forestry are Sustainable Forestry focussed with their approach: “Sustainable forest management is the stewardship and use of forests and forest lands in a way, and at a rate, that maintains their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and their potential to fulfil, now and in the future”. By using locally sourced timber our CO2 emissions are lessened compared to shipping timber from areas in Europe, doing so could lower our CO2 emissions by 1080kg per large batch of timber.
The implementation of the sawmill is well under way, and we look forward to updating you all on our progress.
